History of the Department
The Department of Mechanical Engineering commenced academic activities in 2013 with the admission of its pioneer undergraduate student into the Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) programme. The department was initially led by Professor Christopher Odetunde, who now serves as the Vice-Chancellor of Augustine University, Ilara-Epe.
Subsequent leadership of the department are Professor Kazeem Adekunle Adebiyi, Professor Mondiu Olayinka Durowoju, and Professor John Adesiji Olorunmaiye. Following them is Dr. Habeeb Oguntade. They made significant contributions to the growth of the department during their tenures. From April 2020 to November 2024, Dr. Kamoru Olufemi Oladosu served as Head of Department, with a brief interlude in 2021 when the late Professor Suleiman Owolabi Talabi led the department. The current Acting Head of Department, Dr. Morakinyo Wasiu Kareem, was appointed in November 2024.
The department celebrated a major milestone in 2017, when it graduated its first set of students. Since then, graduates of the department have made commendable strides in both local and international industries, with many pursuing advanced degrees in Nigeria and abroad. A notable proportion of the alumni of the department have become entrepreneurs and job creators, serving as CEOs and founders of businesses across the country.
Mechanical Engineering programme in KWASU has experienced consistent growth in both capacity and academic standing. The department is located on the first floor of the Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed Engineering Building, under the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. Students benefit from instruction in dedicated lecture rooms, as well as access to shared engineering laboratories and facilities across the faculty and the university.
Mission

Vision
To be the leading department of mechanical engineering in expanding the frontier of mechanical engineering knowledge.
Philosophy of the Programme
Our philosophy in the Department of Mechanical Engineering is to seek innovative and efficient ways of component design, production of engineering systems and sustainable generation of energy. Thus, students are exposed to theoretical and practical training in core areas of specialization. Therefore, the students develop competence in analysis, problem-solving skills, and lifelong learning. Furthermore, the programme ensures that our students develop exemplary characters, which makes them not only useful to society but also leaders in their areas of specialization.
